BREAKING: The much-anticipated results of the Hall of Fame voting by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America will be revealed today at 6 p.m. ET. Fans are on the edge of their seats as two center field legends, Carlos Beltran and Andruw Jones, hope to join the ranks of the elite after a disappointing 2025 ballot.
This year’s ballot is considered one of the weakest in recent memory, featuring only 27 players with a collective 1,282 WAR. In stark contrast, the 2013 ballot showcased 37 candidates worth a staggering 1,672 WAR, yet none were elected. The pressure is on, as only 75% of votes are needed for induction, while 5% is required to remain on the ballot.
Beltran, in his third year of eligibility, is currently polling at a remarkable 89.2% on publicly revealed ballots, while Jones sits at 83.5%. However, history shows that these numbers can fluctuate dramatically before the final results are tallied. Last year, Beltran’s final vote count dropped from a pre-announcement 80% to just above 70%.
“It could be a nervy night for both players,” said Ryan Thibodaux, a Hall of Fame tracker.
Both players face long odds despite their impressive careers. Beltran boasts 435 home runs and 2,725 hits, ranking fourth among center fielders since 1960. Meanwhile, Jones, with 62.7 WAR, relies heavily on his defensive metrics, placing him seventh in the same category.
Another player to watch is Cole Hamels, making his debut on the ballot after a stellar career that includes 163 wins and 57.9 WAR. His performance will be closely monitored, especially following the successful induction of CC Sabathia last year, who had a first-ballot entry with 251 wins.
Among the other candidates, Chase Utley is seeing a surge in support, polling at 67.9%, a significant jump from 39.8% last year. This is only his third year on the ballot, and momentum appears to be building for this former Phillies star.
As the clock ticks down to the announcement, the baseball community is buzzing with anticipation. Will Beltran and Jones finally receive their long-deserved recognition? How will Hamels fare in his first year? Stay tuned for the live updates as the results are released!
