Tommy DeCarlo, the lead singer of the legendary rock band Boston, has died at the age of 60. His daughter, Talia DeCarlo, confirmed that he passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
In a heartfelt statement, Talia expressed the family’s sorrow, stating, “It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Dad, Tommy DeCarlo.” She highlighted her father’s incredible strength throughout his illness, adding that he fought valiantly until the end. The family has requested privacy as they navigate this difficult time.
DeCarlo was diagnosed with brain cancer in September 2025. His health journey took a severe turn when he experienced a brain bleed that required an emergency craniotomy. During the surgery, doctors found two melanoma masses on his brain and another spot on his lungs. Despite these significant challenges, DeCarlo showed remarkable resilience, recovering enough to begin treatment. Unfortunately, he suffered another brain bleed, leading to hospitalization from November 27 to December 27.
To assist with medical expenses during this challenging period, DeCarlo’s family launched a GoFundMe campaign. They wrote, “Our Dad is strong. He is a fighter. And he’s giving this battle everything he’s got — but he needs your help on this one.” The campaign highlighted DeCarlo’s gratitude for the support he received from friends, family, and fans worldwide, which greatly uplifted his spirits.
Tommy DeCarlo joined Boston in 2007, succeeding the band’s original lead singer, Brad Delp, who had passed away that same year. Before taking on this dream role, DeCarlo worked as a credit manager at a Home Depot. His journey to stardom began when he uploaded covers of Boston’s songs to his MySpace page, which caught the attention of the band.
DeCarlo is survived by his wife, Annie, and their three children, including Talia and Tommy Jr. His contributions to Boston and the music industry will be remembered by fans around the globe.
As the music world mourns his loss, the legacy of Tommy DeCarlo will undoubtedly live on through his work and the impact he made during his time as the frontman of one of rock’s most enduring bands.
