Geary Lewis Washburn, a respected tax consultant and beloved family patriarch from Decatur, Texas, died Tuesday, April 28, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. His unexpected passing has left the Decatur community and extended family deeply saddened.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, at First Baptist Church of Decatur, followed by burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family and friends will have the opportunity to pay their respects starting one hour before the service at the church.

Life and Legacy

Born June 14, 1940, in Alvord, Texas, to Odie L. and Nora (Nikirk) Washburn, Geary dedicated over five decades to his work as a self-employed tax consultant—a career spanning 51 years. His dedication earned him a loyal clientele he considered friends.

Geary married his lifelong partner, Linda Ann Stevens, on December 8, 1961, in Decatur. Together, they built a life marked by love, faith, and family devotion that lasted over 64 years.

Known for his warmth and community involvement, Geary once served as president of the Decatur Rotary Club and was actively involved in First Baptist Church, where he also served as church treasurer. His passion for family, travel, and simple pleasures like fishing and reading Louis L’Amour books endeared him to many.

Family and Community Impact

Geary is survived by his wife Linda; his sons Steve Washburn and wife Laurie of Decatur and Lance Washburn and wife Emily of Kaufman; and five grandchildren including Fallon Cowan and Hallie Nicole Washburn. He also leaves behind his brother, Bobby Washburn.

His brother, Harold Washburn, preceded him in death.

Honorary pallbearers are Melton Neighbors, Joey Green, Bobby Wilson, Don Ogle, Max Holloway, and Marion Yale.
