SWAMPSCOTT, MA — Urgent news for holiday enthusiasts: The Town of Swampscott is set to kick off its first-ever Festival of Trees from December 1 to December 6, 2023, promising a festive experience for the community. This inaugural event will take place at the former Clarke Elementary School and is expected to draw significant local interest.
The festival opens its doors on December 1 from 4 PM to 8 PM and continues daily until December 5. On the final day, December 6, the event will run from 12 PM to 6 PM. According to Recreation Director Charlotte Daher de Garcia, the festival aims to spread holiday cheer without any cost to attendees. “It’s a nice way for people to get into the holiday spirit with no cost,” Daher de Garcia expressed excitedly.
Community members are invited to explore beautifully decorated trees and engage in crafting activities led by local students from middle and high schools. Holiday helpers from the Town’s Senior Tax Work-Off program will welcome guests, adding to the festive atmosphere.
While entry to the festival is free, attendees can support the event by purchasing raffle tickets. For just $5, guests can buy up to 25 tickets to potentially take home one of the Christmas trees on display. “People can simply come to view the trees, but if they do buy tickets, they can leave them with the trees they like,” Daher de Garcia explained.
Raffle winners will be drawn the week following December 6, with proceeds benefiting the Recreation Department’s future programs and events at the Clarke building. Daher de Garcia expressed hope that the festival will grow into a beloved holiday tradition, allowing local nonprofits and community groups to be beneficiaries in future years.
For those wishing to contribute further, donations of trees or wreaths can be made online at the Swampscott Recreation Department’s website. “I hope it helps get them in the holiday spirit. It’s just one more thing that the Town can offer people,” Daher de Garcia added, emphasizing the importance of community involvement.
This first annual Festival of Trees not only highlights local creativity and community spirit but also aims to create lasting memories for families. Don’t miss this opportunity to kick off the holiday season in Swampscott!
