Turning Point USA has announced its intention to support Vice President JD Vance in the upcoming 2028 presidential election, according to Erika Kirk. During an appearance on the Megyn Kelly Show, Kirk revealed that there are plans being developed to back Vance should he decide to run.
Kirk assumed leadership of Turning Point USA following the tragic assassination of her husband, Charlie Kirk, on September 10, 2023, while he was speaking at an event at Utah Valley University. She recounted one of their last discussions, emphasizing Charlie’s commitment to supporting Vance for the 2028 election, as reported by The Hill.
“Let’s start with the midterms before we start jumping to ’28,” Erika Kirk stated. She highlighted the importance of appreciating the current political landscape, especially with Donald Trump in office, noting her husband’s significant efforts to achieve that outcome.
Earlier this year, Marco Rubio, Secretary of State, expressed optimism about Vance’s potential candidacy, stating, “I think JD Vance would be a great nominee… if he decides he wants to do that.” Rubio praised Vance’s performance as vice president and indicated his hope that Vance would consider a run.
Trump has similarly endorsed the idea of a Vance-Rubio ticket, describing it as “unstoppable” for the 2028 elections. He stated, “We have JD,” while also commending Rubio as “great.”
Despite the growing speculation regarding a presidential run, Vance has emphasized the need to focus on the upcoming 2026 midterm elections before making any decisions. During an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Vance remarked, “So we’re going to win the midterms, we’re going to do everything that we can to win the midterms, and then after that, I’m going to sit down with the president of the United States and talk to him about it.”
He acknowledged that he has considered what a presidential bid might entail but stressed the importance of prioritizing his current responsibilities. “I try to put it out of my head and remind myself the American people elected me to do a job right now and my job is to do it,” Vance said.
The political landscape is evolving, and with Turning Point USA’s backing, Vance’s potential candidacy for the presidency in 2028 is gaining momentum. As the nation approaches the midterms, the focus will remain on immediate electoral challenges while shaping the narrative for the future.
