Jane Elizabeth Heath Remembered for Kindness and Culinary Talent

Jane Elizabeth Heath, a cherished member of the Portland community, passed away on November 21, 2025, at the age of 67. Her death occurred at The Barron Center in Portland, Maine, following a prolonged illness. Jane’s life was marked by her contributions to both her professional and personal communities, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her.

Early Life and Career

Born on November 3, 1958, in Bangor, Maine, Jane was the daughter of the late John and Jean (Harriss) Heath. She graduated from Hampden Academy before pursuing further education at Katherine Gibbs College in Boston and the University of Maine.

Jane built a successful career as the Director of Human Resources at DeLorme Mapping during the company’s formative years and later worked at Frank’s Bakery in Bangor. Her professional journey showcased her strong leadership skills and commitment to fostering positive workplace environments.

Passions and Legacy

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jane was known for her diverse interests and talents. She was a notary public and officiated numerous weddings, contributing to the special moments of many couples. Jane was also a passionate baker, renowned for her exceptional carrot cake, which she lovingly prepared for family and friends’ weddings. At one point, she even operated her own catering business, further showcasing her culinary skills.

Travel played a significant role in Jane’s life. She explored western Europe and the western United States during her younger years, cultivating a love for new experiences. Additionally, Jane was an accomplished knitter, creating beautiful blankets for newborns, which became treasured gifts for family, friends, and acquaintances.

Jane will be fondly remembered for her warmth, kindness, and infectious laughter. She is survived by her sisters, Ellen Heath, Anne Stuart (John), and Margaret Carignan (Rob), as well as her brother, Richard Heath (Barbara). Jane also leaves behind her Aunt Anne, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, their children, and many special friends.

Celebration of Life

In accordance with Jane’s wishes, a celebration of her life will take place next spring on a date yet to be determined. She will be laid to rest beside her parents in Bar Harbor. Jane’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Barron Center and the friends Jane made during her last year, who helped make her life comfortable and joyful.
