Colin Cummings has announced his candidacy for the Astoria City Council, expressing a deep commitment to the community of Ward 4. In a letter published on November 24, 2025, Cummings outlined his priorities and intentions for the role, emphasizing his passion for Astoria and its residents.
Cummings and his family have been residents of Astoria for five years. Despite having no prior visit before their move, the family quickly became enamored with the town’s charm. Cummings noted his active participation in local events, including the Scandinavian Heritage Festival and the Astoria Sunday Market, as well as his service on budget committees for both the Astoria School District and Clatsop County 4-H.
In his letter, Cummings highlighted the importance of fostering an environment where local businesses, such as Fort George, can thrive. He stated, “The success of Fort George allowed us the opportunity to move here, and I want to see the city work to ensure that kind of success continues for others.” This sentiment reflects his broader vision for supporting business growth and community engagement in Astoria.
Community-Centric Approach
Cummings identifies himself as a problem solver who values teamwork. He believes the primary focus of the city council should be on delivering essential services to residents, businesses, and nonprofit organizations. Key areas he intends to prioritize include providing clean water, ensuring safe streets, streamlining the permitting process, and maintaining vibrant parks.
As part of his commitment to the role, Cummings assured voters that he is prepared to learn quickly, ask pertinent questions, and apply his energy and skills to enhance the success of Astoria and Ward 4. “I promise to learn fast, and ask a ton of questions, and apply my knowledge, energy, and skill to ensuring that Astoria and Ward 4 can be even more successful in the future,” he stated.
Cummings’ candidacy marks a significant step in his engagement with the Astoria community. His focus on collaboration and service reflects a desire to strengthen the city’s infrastructure and foster a supportive environment for all its residents. As the election approaches, attention will turn to how his vision resonates with voters in Ward 4.
