URGENT UPDATE: Morgan Geyser, the infamous Slender Man stabbing assailant, has been arrested in Posen, Illinois, after evading authorities for several hours. The 22-year-old was apprehended at 9:54 p.m. Sunday at a Thornton’s Truck Stop following a multi-state manhunt that began when she cut off her Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet.
Geyser, who gained notoriety for stabbing her friend Payton Leutner 19 times in 2014 to please the fictional character Slender Man, fled a Wisconsin group home on Saturday night. Authorities reported her last known location was in Madison around 8 p.m. on Saturday, where she was seen with an adult acquaintance.
Posen police received notification of Geyser’s disappearance on Sunday morning, leading to an urgent search. She was found unharmed with a 42-year-old man at the truck stop, who faces charges of criminal trespassing and obstructing identification. He has since been released from custody.
Geyser’s mother, Angie Geyser, made a public plea earlier on Sunday, stating, “If you see Morgan, please call the police. Morgan, if you can see this, we love you and just want to know you are safe.”
Following her arrest, Geyser is set to be held until her transfer to Cook County Jail for an extradition hearing. Geyser had been living under supervision after being released from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute in March 2024, following recommendations from three psychologists regarding her preparedness for supervised release.
Earlier concerns regarding her release included allegations of “violent” communication with individuals outside the facility and her reading material, which raised alarms about themes of violence.
The stabbing incident in 2014 shocked the nation, as Geyser and her accomplice, Anissa Weier, lured Leutner into the woods and left her for dead. Leutner miraculously survived the attack and has since focused on her recovery, expressing in a previous interview her desire to reclaim her story and heal from the trauma.
A spokesperson for the Leutner family confirmed they are aware of the latest developments regarding Geyser and expressed their gratitude for the law enforcement efforts in ensuring their safety. “Payton and her family are safe and are working closely with local law enforcement to ensure their continued safety,” the spokesperson stated.
As this story develops, more details are expected to emerge regarding Geyser’s future legal proceedings and the implications of her escape on her psychiatric treatment and public safety. Stay tuned for updates.
