St. Joseph Community Chorus Unveils Festive December Concerts

The St. Joseph Community Chorus is set to bring the spirit of the holiday season to life with a series of performances in December, inviting both audiences and singers to participate in timeless classics. The two events promise to showcase the rich vocal and instrumental talent within the community, creating memorable experiences for all attendees.

On December 13, 2024, at 15:00, the First Presbyterian Church will host a “Messiah Sing-A-Long.” This free event, directed by Dr. Timothy Tharaldson alongside Dr. Ruth Krusemark, invites participants to join in singing uplifting choruses from Handel’s Messiah. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own scores, although copies will be available for those who do not have one. While admission is free, donations are welcomed to support the chorus’s endeavours.

Following this, the St. Joseph Community Chorus will present two performances of the cherished holiday tradition, “Christmas at the Cathedral.” Scheduled for December 21 at 15:00 and December 22 at 19:00, these concerts will take place at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, located at 519 N. 10th St. This year’s performances will feature the celebrated handbell ensemble Rezound!, which consists of 15 talented ringers and showcases a remarkable array of instruments, including 61/2 octaves of Schulmerich handbells and other unique bells.

The collaboration between the St. Joseph Community Chorus and Rezound! will highlight three exquisite pieces: “Creation Will Be at Peace” by Anna Laura Page, “Christmas Is Coming” by Joel Raney, and “Ring Out Ye Bells” by Marques L.A. Garrett, Samuel Carlton, and Dan Forrest.

Tickets for “Christmas at the Cathedral” are priced at $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and free for all students, making it an accessible event for families and community members.
