The New York Police Department (NYPD) has provided new insights into the shooting of Kris Boyd, a cornerback for the New York Jets, which occurred early on September 10, 2023. The incident took place outside the Asian Fusion restaurant Sei Less in Midtown Manhattan during a confrontation with a group of individuals. Boyd, 29, was out with teammates Jamien Sherwood and Irvin Charles, as well as a friend visiting from Texas.
According to officials, the NYPD has identified a possible shooter based on tips received through CrimeStoppers. Joseph Kenny, NYPD Chief of Detectives, indicated that surveillance footage aided in this development. “We looked at their social media and were able to get a law enforcement ID of that potential shooter from an officer who had a previous interaction with him,” Kenny stated. While investigators are close to establishing probable cause, no names have been released at this time.
In a twist, authorities recovered a watch valued at $185,000 at the scene, which remains unclaimed. “None of the Jet players have laid claim to it, so we’re still looking into that aspect,” Kenny noted. He emphasized that there was no indication of a robbery during the incident.
The confrontation reportedly began when the group approached Boyd and his companions, questioning their attire and expressing hostility. After entering the restaurant, Boyd’s group decided to leave shortly after due to a negative atmosphere. As they exited, they were confronted again by the same group, leading to further verbal exchanges. During this altercation, a gunman fired at Boyd, resulting in a bullet lodging in his lung.
Boyd remains hospitalized but provided a hopeful update to his followers on social media, indicating that he is beginning to breathe on his own. The ongoing investigation seeks to clarify the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the identity of the shooter.
The NYPD continues to urge anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in resolving such incidents. The situation remains under close scrutiny as officials work to bring clarity to this high-profile case.
