UPDATE: Despite challenging weather conditions, Pasadena successfully hosted its seventh annual Adaptive Sports Festival on November 15, 2025, at the Villa Parke Community Center. Thanks to organizers’ quick thinking, the event transitioned indoors, ensuring that participants of all abilities could engage in a variety of sports.
The festival, which is a partnership between Pasadena and the Triumph Foundation, featured activities such as rugby, pickleball, tennis, boccia, boxing, power soccer, and fencing. This adaptability allowed the event to continue its mission of promoting inclusivity and providing opportunities for youth with disabilities, emphasizing that weather would not deter the spirit of participation.
“It’s amazing to see so many kids enjoying sports, regardless of the weather,” said Natália Mayara, a renowned Paralympic athlete present at the event. The festival is designed to empower children and adults with Spinal Cord Injury/Disorder to explore different sports and discover new interests.
Participants showcased their skills and enthusiasm as they engaged in various sports activities, with many families attending to support their loved ones. This year’s festival also included vendor booths, offering information and resources to families navigating life with disabilities.
The event not only promotes physical activity but also fosters a sense of community, encouraging connections among families and participants. Henry Pedersen from La Crescenta and Lilly Vega from Lancaster were just two of the many youth athletes who showcased their talent on the rugby field, illustrating the festival’s profound impact.
As the day progressed, attendees enjoyed an array of adaptive sports and activities, proving that community spirit and resilience can triumph over adversity.
Looking ahead, the festival organizers plan to evaluate the success of this year’s indoor format and consider future venues and schedules to accommodate weather challenges. For more details about upcoming events or to participate, families are encouraged to visit the Triumph Foundation’s website.
This year’s Adaptive Sports Festival not only celebrated sports but also highlighted the importance of community support and inclusion, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
