Cleveland State University (CSU) has recognized alumna Julie Onderak as a Student of Distinction for her outstanding professional and academic achievements. As a 2025 graduate, Onderak’s journey reflects the university’s commitment to fostering success among its students.
Significant Achievements and Internships
During her time at CSU, Onderak participated in impactful internships, including a pivotal role in the Ohio Export Internship Program. This experience provided her with insights into international business operations, helping her develop essential skills for her career. “I learned to adapt to different cultures I encountered daily,” Onderak stated. She emphasized the importance of adjusting her communication style based on the backgrounds and needs of the individuals she interacted with.
Following her success in the internship program, Onderak secured a position with Karg Corporation, which has opened new doors for her professional growth. This role not only highlights her capabilities but also underscores the value of experiential learning at CSU.
The Importance of Mentorship and Personal Growth
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Onderak values the relationships she built with faculty members during her studies. She credits Chris Lees, an EAN counselor, and Jacob Ott, a career specialist, for their mentorship and guidance throughout her academic journey. Their support extended beyond the classroom, playing a crucial role in her personal and professional development.
Reflecting on her time at CSU, Onderak shared how the university instilled a growth mindset in her. “You won’t always know the answer, and that’s okay,” she said. By allowing herself to make mistakes, she learned valuable lessons that transcended the pressures of perfectionism, preparing her for the complexities of the real world.
In addition to her studies and internships, Onderak actively engaged in extracurricular activities, serving on the board of the Entrepreneurship Club. This involvement exemplifies CSU’s mission to nurture leadership and service among its students, as she guided her peers to valuable resources and opportunities.
As Onderak looks toward her future with Karg Corporation, she recognizes the impact of opportunities like the Ohio Export Internship Program on her career trajectory. “Without the OEIP, I would not be in the position I am fortunate and thankful to be in today,” she remarked. Her achievements serve as an inspiration to current and future students at Cleveland State University, highlighting the importance of perseverance, mentorship, and community engagement.
