Cougars Dominate Citrus 6-2 on Emotional Sophomore Night

BREAKING: The College of the Canyons Cougars delivered a stunning performance on November 3, 2023, clinching a decisive 6-2 victory over Citrus College during the highly anticipated Sophomore Night. This triumph marks a season-high in goals for the Cougars, who showcased their dominance on their home turf as they wrapped up their home season.

The Cougars (5-11-3, 3-6) celebrated their five sophomores—Diego Briseno, Steven Garcia, Juandiego Rodriguez, Jeffrey Contreras, and Leon Mikailian—before the match, recognizing their contributions over the past two seasons. Cardenas scored again shortly after, keeping Citrus within striking distance at 3-2.

The Cougars launched a relentless offensive barrage as Juandiego Rodriguez scored twice in quick succession, first in the 74th minute with an assist from Justin Assadi, and then again in the 87th minute, with support from Mikailian. Leon Mikailian capped the scoring frenzy with a goal in the 90th minute, cementing the Cougars’ victory at 6-2.

In goal, Jonathan Mazon started strong with two saves, but it was David Zendejas who played the second half, clinching the win for the Cougars. COC unleashed a staggering 26 shots during the match, with 17 on target and earned nine corners.
