Four Dead, Eleven Injured as Speeding Car Crashes in Tampa

URGENT UPDATE: A devastating crash in Ybor City, Florida early Saturday morning has left four people dead and eleven injured after a speeding car plowed through a crowd. The incident occurred around 12:40 a.m., prompting immediate action from local authorities.

According to the Tampa Police Department, the chaos began when police air units spotted two vehicles racing westbound on Hillsborough Avenue towards Interstate 275. One vehicle broke off, while the other, driven by 22-year-old Silas Sampson, continued south on I-275. Attempts by the Florida Highway Patrol to initiate a traffic stop were unsuccessful, including a PIT maneuver aimed at halting the reckless driver.

In a press conference, Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw detailed the harrowing moments that unfolded as Sampson’s vehicle sped into Ybor City. The car careened down 7th Avenue and crashed near a popular bar, Bradley’s, striking more than a dozen people who were outside enjoying the night. Tragically, three victims died at the scene, with a fourth succumbing to injuries at a local hospital.

As of around 5:30 a.m., one additional victim remains in critical condition, while eight others are being treated at local hospitals and reported to be stable. Two individuals suffered minor injuries but declined treatment on-site. All victims were adults over 20 years old.

Sampson was arrested at the scene and faces serious charges, including four felony counts of vehicular homicide and four felony counts of aggravated fleeing with serious bodily injury. Court records reveal that he was cited for speeding just two months ago, traveling at 99 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 75.
