Two New Jersey Men Arrested in Urgent Halloween Terror Plot

UPDATE: Just announced, two more suspects have been arrested in connection with an alleged Halloween terror plot targeting locations in Michigan. Authorities confirm that 19-year-old Milo Sedanet from Montclair, New Jersey, was apprehended at Newark Airport as he attempted to board a flight to Turkey. This development comes amid ongoing investigations into a conspiracy believed to be linked to ISIS.

Law enforcement sources told ABC News that Sedanet was under surveillance by an undercover unit from the NYPD. He is suspected of planning to join ISIS in Syria after traveling to Turkey. Following the recent arrests of two Dearborn men, Sedanet reportedly expedited his travel plans out of fear of being caught.

In a related arrest, Tomas Kaan Jimenez-Guzal, another man from New Jersey, has also been taken into custody. Both arrests are part of a broader investigation into a group of individuals allegedly plotting an act of terrorism over the Halloween weekend.

Federal charges have already been filed against Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud, the two Dearborn residents arrested last week. According to a criminal complaint unsealed on October 31, 2023, these men allegedly conspired to carry out an attack on Halloween, which they referred to as “pumpkin day” in their encrypted communications. Authorities say the group had acquired multiple AR-15-style weapons and were actively scouting locations in the Ferndale area, including establishments popular with the LGBTQ+ community.

During raids on the homes of the suspects in Dearborn, agents recovered an alarming cache of weaponry: three AR-15-style rifles, two shotguns, four handguns, and over 1,600 rounds of ammunition. Tactical gear, including vests and GoPro cameras, were also seized, indicating serious preparations for an attack.

The FBI’s swift action was prompted by extensive surveillance of the suspects’ communications since early 2024. Former U.S. Attorney Matthew Schneider emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that law enforcement had to intervene quickly to prevent potential loss of life. He stated, “It’s clear that law enforcement made that judgment call that they needed to act quickly before lives were at stake.”

The investigation revealed chilling statements made by the suspects, including Ali’s comment, “I gotta do the pumpkin for real… if [UI] don’t do the pumpkin, I’m gonna slit my wrists.” Such rhetoric underscores the seriousness of their intentions, as the group allegedly discussed their plans in great detail.

Retired FBI Assistant Director Dan Roberts remarked on the gravity of the criminal complaint, describing it as one of the most extensive he has seen in over 30 years. “There was a large quantity of ammunition, and the targeted locations are particularly concerning given ISIS’s previous attacks on LGBTQ establishments,” he noted.

As the investigation unfolds, more charges are expected against Ali and Mahmoud, with additional details likely to emerge in the coming weeks. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant as they continue to monitor potential threats.
