UPDATE: A shooting at a large party in Bath Township has left nine people injured, prompting an urgent investigation by local authorities. The incident occurred at an Airbnb in the 900 block of Top O Hill Drive early this morning, with police responding to multiple reports of shots fired around 12:16 AM.
Bath Police Chief Vito Sinopoli confirmed that the party, attended mostly by juveniles, quickly turned chaotic as guests fled the scene. Officers arrived to provide life-saving aid to the victims, who were later transported to nearby hospitals. Reports indicate that three victims were treated at Summa Health, with two released and one admitted. An additional six victims were admitted to Cleveland Clinic. Some attendees self-transported to the hospital, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
In a press conference shortly after the incident, Chief Sinopoli emphasized, “This kind of violence is unacceptable in our community.” He confirmed that no arrests have been made yet, but the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is assisting in identifying the suspect(s). Multiple shell casings were discovered throughout the residence, indicating the severity of the situation.
Witnesses reported hearing a barrage of gunfire, followed by chaos as cars attempted to leave the area. Local residents expressed shock at the level of violence in what is typically a peaceful community. “We do our very best to ensure the protection of our residents and business owners,” Sinopoli stated, underlining the commitment to finding those responsible.
This incident marks a troubling trend, as Bath Township has previously seen violence related to unauthorized gatherings at rental properties. Mayor Shammas Malik addressed the community’s concerns, stating, “This kind of deadly behavior cannot be normalized,” and committed to supporting the ongoing investigation.
In response to the shooting, Airbnb released a statement expressing their heartbreak over the event. They confirmed that unauthorized gatherings are against their policy and that they have removed the account of the individual responsible for booking the rental. Their law enforcement response team is collaborating with Bath Township police to ensure justice is served.
The Youth Peace & Justice Foundation is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the shooting. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Bath Township Police Department’s detective bureau at 330-666-3736.
As the investigation unfolds, community leaders are calling for heightened awareness and responsibility among parents and local organizations to ensure the safety of youth at gatherings. This shocking event serves as a reminder of the urgent need for community engagement in preventing violence.
