Six-Year-Old Dog Taz Finds New Home After Abandonment

A six-year-old Boxer and Bullmastiff mix named Taz has found a new home in Massachusetts after being abandoned by his owner in San Antonio on Christmas Eve 2023. Taz’s journey to adoption highlights the importance of pet rescue efforts and the commitment of local organizations to find loving homes for animals in need.

Taz, who was left at Lucy’s Doggy Daycare and Spa, is part of the “Forgotten Friends” series, which showcases pets that have spent significant time in shelters waiting for a family. According to Hannah Snyder, Marketing Coordinator and Customer Experience Manager at Lucy’s, many dogs like Taz are pulled from the euthanasia list at the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services. Others are found abandoned, sometimes left on the doorstep of the daycare.

Lucy’s Doggy Daycare and Spa has been fostering dogs since 2010 and works closely with God’s Dogs Rescue, which provides medical care for the animals while they are in the daycare’s care. Dogs are then made available for adoption through the rescue’s website. Taz is described as a “fun-sized” dog, weighing approximately 59 pounds, which is on the smaller side for his breed mix.

Taz’s temperament makes him a great fit for an active household, especially one with older children. His playful nature can lead to him knocking over younger kids if he gets too excited. He is sociable and enjoys the company of other dogs, although his strong prey drive may make him unsuitable for homes with cats.

“Taz is a spunky and smart individual,” Snyder remarked. “He loves to play fetch and already knows how to sit, shake, and lay down.” Taz has been neutered, is up to date on vaccinations, and is in good health, with his seventh birthday approaching on October 25, 2023.

Lucy’s Doggy Daycare and Spa is also offering a complimentary “Glow Up” Day at the Spa for Taz’s new family, which includes a therapeutic bath and a pawdicure. This initiative is part of the organization’s commitment to giving back to dogs in need, continuing the legacy of Lucy, the rescue dog for whom the daycare is named.

For those interested in adopting Taz, the process is straightforward. Local adopters in the San Antonio area will pay an adoption fee of $200, while out-of-state adopters will incur a fee of $450, which includes transportation costs.

“Taz has a heart of gold and energy to match,” said the team at God’s Dogs Rescue. “He’s incredibly friendly with people and gets along well with other dogs, though he can get a bit rambunctious and sometimes needs gentle reminders to settle down.”

Potential adopters can visit Taz at Lucy’s Doggy Daycare and Spa’s downtown location at 937 S. Laredo St., open Monday through Friday from 06:30 to 20:00 and weekends from 08:00 to 18:00. The daycare also has two other locations in San Antonio, ensuring ample opportunity for interested families to meet Taz.

Lucy’s is currently offering special promotions for first-time customers, including 50% off a full day of daycare and bath services for those who book a stay of three nights or more.

By adopting a shelter pet like Taz, families not only gain a loyal companion but also help create space for another animal in need. For those who know of other pets still waiting for homes, Lucy’s encourages contacting them to continue supporting animals in their search for loving families.
