Bay FC Ends Turbulent Season with 1-0 Loss at Louisville

UPDATE: Bay FC’s tumultuous season in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) has concluded with a disheartening 1-0 loss against Racing Louisville on Sunday, September 24, 2025. This defeat marks the club’s 14th loss of the season, leaving them with just 4 wins and 8 draws, placing them in 13th out of 14 teams.

The match began with Bay FC’s defense holding strong against Louisville’s pressure, maintaining a scoreless first half. However, just three minutes into the second half, Ella Hase broke through to score the only goal of the match, sealing Bay FC’s fate. Coach Albertin Montoya, who announced his resignation earlier this month, expressed gratitude despite the disappointing outcome.

“We didn’t end the way we would’ve liked to, but I also have to say thank you to the players and to Bay FC. They never stopped competing and playing for each other,”

Montoya stated after the match. He emphasized the potential for the team’s future, despite the challenges faced this season.

This season has been overshadowed by an investigation into a reportedly “toxic” workplace environment under Montoya, leading to significant upheaval within the organization. The club’s performance has significantly declined compared to their inaugural season in 2024, where they finished with an 11-14-1 record.

In a bright spot for Bay FC, defender Caprice Dydasco achieved a remarkable milestone by playing every minute of the 2025 regular season, earning her “iron woman” status. Dydasco is the first Bay FC player to reach this milestone, a feat accomplished by only 40 other players in league history.

Looking ahead, Bay FC will undergo further changes, including the departure of team president Brady Stewart, who resigned last month after successfully organizing a match at Oracle Park that attracted over 35,000 fans. Both Stewart and Montoya have been integral since the club’s founding, indicating a significant shift as the team prepares for its third season.

As Bay FC enters a new chapter, fans and players alike are left to ponder what’s next for the team and how they will rebuild after such a challenging season. The urgency for change is palpable, with supporters hopeful for a brighter future as the new season approaches.
