16 Arrested in Urgent Child Predator Sting Operation in Florida

UPDATE: Sixteen individuals were arrested in a sweeping undercover operation targeting child predators in Citrus County, Florida. This urgent initiative, dubbed Operation Boogeyman, was executed by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office High Tech Crimes Unit in collaboration with multiple law enforcement agencies.

The operation, which concluded recently, aimed to expose dangerous cyber predators attempting to engage in sexual activities with minors. Authorities reported that personnel posed as underage children on various websites and social media platforms, leading to shocking interactions.

During the operation, suspects sent sexually explicit messages and images to individuals they believed were children. In a disturbing trend, several offenders even traveled to meet these supposed minors in person for illegal activities. Among those arrested were previously convicted sex offenders who allegedly violated the conditions of their probation or parole.

Sheriff David Vincent emphasized the seriousness of these threats, stating, “These predators knew they were targeting children and still chose to pursue them. Operation Boogeyman exposed how real and dangerous these threats are in the digital world.” He commended the tireless efforts of the men and women in his High Tech Crimes Unit and partner agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

This operation highlights the urgent need for vigilance in protecting children online. As technology evolves, so do the tactics of predators seeking to exploit the innocent. Authorities are urging parents to monitor their children’s online interactions closely and report any suspicious behavior.

The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is expected to provide further updates as investigations continue, and they remain committed to ensuring the safety of children in their community. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and support ongoing efforts to combat child exploitation.
