BREAKING: North Dakota State University (NDSU) and Dickinson State College have just announced a groundbreaking partnership to establish a pre-pharmacy program aimed at addressing the urgent need for pharmacists in western North Dakota. The collaboration was unveiled on October 29, 2023, and marks a significant step forward in healthcare education within the state.
Starting in spring 2024, students from Dickinson will gain access to a comprehensive three-year pre-pharmacy program, alongside an accelerated training track at NDSU, the only institution in North Dakota offering a pharmacy degree. This innovative initiative is expected to enhance local healthcare by equipping students with essential skills to meet the growing demand for pharmacists.
According to Amy Werremeyer, chair of NDSU’s Department of Pharmacy Practice, “We’re providing coverage and making connections with people all across the state. We know that the health of North Dakotans is paramount for what pharmacists need to be focused on, and we’re here to help students do that.” This program not only opens doors for aspiring pharmacists but also strengthens community health initiatives across North Dakota.
The urgent need for healthcare professionals, particularly pharmacists, has been highlighted by rising population demands in rural areas. This partnership aims to fill that gap by nurturing local talent and ensuring that future pharmacists are well-prepared to serve their communities.
With this new pathway, potential pharmacy students in Dickinson are encouraged to apply as opportunities will be available from spring 2024. This move represents a pivotal shift in educational collaboration within the state, aiming to bolster healthcare access and improve health outcomes for all North Dakotans.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story and the positive impact it will have on the future of healthcare in North Dakota.
