Gas Prices Surge and Dip Across Mid-Hudson Valley—Latest Data Inside

UPDATE: Gasoline prices are experiencing a volatile shift across the Mid-Hudson Valley as new data reveals significant fluctuations. Last week, prices varied dramatically, with some areas seeing declines while others faced increases, according to GasBuddy.com.

In Ulster County, the average price of a gallon of gas remains stable, edging up just 0.2 cents to $3.036. This figure is still a notable 7.1 cents lower than this time last month. Meanwhile, in Dutchess County, prices fell by 2.2 cents to $3.114, marking an impressive 11.7 cents decrease from a month ago.

In Greene County, prices have also shifted minimally, inching up by 0.5 cents to $3.077, which is still 5 cents less than last month. Conversely, Columbia County saw a slight rise of 2 cents to $3.069, reflecting a decrease of 13.6 cents compared to the previous month.

On a larger scale, the state average for New York has declined by 3 cents per gallon to $3.07. This marks a rise of 10.8 cents compared to last month, yet it’s still 8.4 cents lower than the same time last year. Nationally, the average price saw a slight rise of 2.5 cents, currently standing at just above $3 per gallon.

According to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, “The national average saw a slight rise over the last week, as gas prices surged in parts of the Midwest after a refinery fire pushed wholesale gasoline prices sharply higher in the region.” He further notes relief may be on the horizon, stating, “While the spike in prices in affected areas was significant, relief is likely in the weeks ahead as the situation stabilizes.”

The potential for a U.S.-China trade deal could also impact oil prices, with optimism surrounding increased trade and reduced tariffs. This may keep national averages slightly above the $3-per-gallon mark in the coming weeks before potentially dropping below $3 ahead of Thanksgiving.

Historical data reveals that average gas prices in New York on October 27 have fluctuated significantly over the past five years: $3.15 in 2024, $3.71 in 2023, $3.68 in 2022, $3.52 in 2021, and just $2.25 in 2020.
