Candidates Compete for Boyertown School Board Seats in 2025 Election

Three candidates are contending for two available seats in Region 1 of the Boyertown School Board during the general election scheduled for November 4, 2025. Incumbent Ruth Dierolf will appear on the ballot representing both the Democratic and Republican parties. Newcomers Michelle Wile, running as a Democrat, and Matthew Weir, running as a Republican, are also seeking election to the board for four-year terms.
In an effort to understand their motivations and perspectives, the Reading Eagle posed two critical questions to each candidate. The first question focused on their unique qualifications for the role, while the second inquired about the most pressing challenge facing the district and their proposed solutions.
Candidates’ Perspectives on Qualifications and Challenges
Michelle Wile, an educator with a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Pennsylvania, articulated her commitment to education and the community. She emphasized the transformative power of education in her life and her dedication to fostering a strong educational environment for all students. Wile has extensive experience, having taught high school math and middle school honors courses across various school settings.
In her response regarding the biggest challenge, Wile expressed concern over students struggling with standardized assessments in math and reading. She highlighted that these challenges impact not just the students but the broader community. Advocating for full-day kindergarten, she pointed out that research supports the positive effects of early childhood education on long-term cognitive and emotional development. Wile acknowledged that implementing such programs might require additional resources, potentially leading to tax increases. However, she believes strong fiscal leadership and innovative planning can mitigate these costs while prioritizing educational quality.
The incumbent, Ruth Dierolf, did not provide a response to the inquiries posed by the Reading Eagle, leaving voters to consider her previous service on the board as they make their decision.
Matthew Weir, while also not responding to the questions, is positioned as a Republican candidate and will be appealing to voters who align with his party’s values and vision for the school district.
As the election date approaches, the candidates’ differing backgrounds and perspectives will likely shape the discourse around education in the Boyertown area. Voters are encouraged to consider the qualifications and proposed solutions of each candidate as they prepare to cast their ballots.
