UPDATE: Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is set to undergo an MRI on Monday after suffering a hamstring injury during Washington’s 44-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. The injury occurred midway through the third quarter when Daniels’ right leg twisted awkwardly as he was sacked.

Head coach Dan Quinn did not provide specific details about the injury during his post-game remarks, stating only that Daniels felt discomfort in his hamstring prior to exiting the game. “I just don’t want to say one way or another, and not give the accurate info on that,” Quinn remarked, confirming the planned MRI for the second-year quarterback.

Daniels, who was performing well with 12 of 22 passes completed for 156 yards and one touchdown, was injured after being tackled by rookie linebacker Shemar James. Following the injury, Daniels limped to the sideline, briefly entered the medical tent, and then proceeded to jog into the locker room as Washington was trailing 27-15.

“He definitely wanted back in,” Quinn said, highlighting Daniels’ determination to return to the game.

The Cowboys capitalized on Daniels’ fumble, scoring a touchdown shortly after, pushing their lead to 34-15. Backup quarterback Marcus Mariota stepped in, completing 4 of 10 passes for 63 yards but also throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown, further widening the gap.

Daniels has had a challenging season, previously sidelined for two games due to a left knee injury. In the five games he has played, he has completed 89 of 146 passes for 1,031 yards, with eight touchdowns and only one interception. Mariota’s performance against the Cowboys adds pressure to the Commanders, who are currently 3-4 this season.

“It’s tough. He’s been battling all year, and I know that can be very frustrating,” Mariota expressed, emphasizing the emotional toll of the season on Daniels.

The Commanders face critical decisions ahead as they monitor Daniels’ recovery and prepare for the coming weeks. Fans are urged to stay tuned for updates on this developing situation, as the MRI results could significantly impact Washington’s playoff aspirations.
