UPDATE: K9 Roam, the injured canine officer of the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), is set for a heartfelt homecoming procession tomorrow, October 21, at 11:00 AM. After sustaining severe injuries in the line of duty, Roam’s return to his home unit has mobilized the community to show their support.
Roam was gravely injured on October 15, while attempting to apprehend a suspect, leading to a critical surgery that included a leg amputation. He has been recovering at Animal ER Care, where a dedicated team of veterinary professionals worked tirelessly to save his life. CSPD expressed profound gratitude for their exceptional care, which has been crucial for Roam’s recovery.
The procession will begin at 11:00 AM tomorrow, with Roam and his handler expected to pass through Fountain Boulevard around 11:15 AM. Community members are encouraged to line the sidewalks along the route to honor Roam’s bravery and resilience. CSPD advises attendees to avoid parking directly on Fountain Boulevard or Academy Boulevard, urging them to seek alternative parking options to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Public Communication Specialist Caitlin Ford will be available for interviews at the CSPD Sand Creek Substation, approximately 20 minutes after the procession concludes. This offers an opportunity for community members to engage with officials and learn more about Roam’s journey.
The story of K9 Roam highlights the sacrifices made by law enforcement, both human and canine. His recovery and the community’s support serve as a poignant reminder of the bonds between service animals and the communities they protect. As the procession approaches, the outpouring of support reflects the deep appreciation for Roam’s service and dedication.
Join the community tomorrow to celebrate K9 Roam’s remarkable journey home!
