North Texas Father Faces Devastating Loss of Wife and Unborn Son Days Before Mother’s Day
Avi Carey is grappling with an unimaginable tragedy after the sudden death of his wife, Tiffany Carey, and their unborn son just days before Mother’s Day. Tiffany passed away May 2, only days before she was due to give birth to their third child, a boy they planned to name Kylo.
The loss has left Avi and their two children, Kingston and Kasyn, in deep mourning. Carey described Tiffany as his “rock” and “soulmate” whose radiant smile and warmth touched everyone she met.
From Joyful Celebration to Heartbreaking Tragedy in Days
The family’s happiness turned to heartbreak when Tiffany began experiencing a severe headache just days before delivery. Avi recalled an alarming moment when he found his wife unresponsive on their couch. “I saw her face … her lips were blue. And I already knew,” Carey said, struggling to hold back tears.
The family had celebrated a baby shower less than a week earlier, making the swift turn from joy to grief even more painful. “We went from celebrating the baby shower to planning a funeral in less than five days,” Carey said.
Broader Crisis for Black Mothers Highlighted by Tragedy
Tiffany’s death underscores a growing crisis in maternal health affecting Black women across the U.S. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Black women are more than three times as likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than white women, with 80% of those deaths considered preventable.
Carey voiced concern over possible missed warning signs. “I would say educate yourself. Take everything seriously. That should have been a red flag … the headache,” he urged.
Honoring Tiffany’s Legacy Amid Heartache
Now surrounded by baby supplies and memories, Carey focuses on honoring Tiffany’s legacy and raising their children with the values she lived by—especially her belief to “lead with love.”
“She always said, ‘You’ve got to lead with love.’ She did that in everything,” Carey shared.
