Chickasaws Surge Above .500 with Dominant Denver Tourney Win

New Hampton Girls Soccer Rockets Above .500 After Denver Tournament Win

The New Hampton Chickasaws girls soccer team surged to a winning record with a commanding 4-1 victory over Washington at the Denver Tournament this past Saturday, pushing their season record to 5-4 just as regional play approaches.

Four different players found the back of the net, highlighting the Chickasaws’ balanced and relentless offense. Junior Kimber Dungey, freshman Amelia Uribe, freshman Brynlie Anderson, and senior standout Tegan Dungey all contributed to the scoring effort.

Tegan Dungey continues to lead New Hampton’s offense as the team’s top scorer with 10 goals on the season. Both Kimber Dungey and Amelia Uribe have added four goals each, underscoring the depth of scoring threats. Sophomore goalkeeper Vanessa Salas played a critical role with four saves, helping secure the decisive win.

“It feels good to see the players rewarded for their effort and growth. They’ve been training with purpose, and today they showed confidence, composure, and a real commitment to our style of play,” said New Hampton head coach Fayssal Talib. “Wins are always great, but seeing the team improve and trust each other — that’s the best part.”

The strong performance at Denver follows a mixed opening day, where the Chickasaws suffered a harsh 10-0 loss to the No. 3 host Cyclones. Freshman goalkeeper Rylie Rochford still managed to tally four saves in that challenging match.

Earlier last week, New Hampton shut out Postville 4-0 to notch their second shutout of the season against the Pirates, with sister duo Kimber and Tegan Dungey leading the offense. Senior Keziah Uglum added her fourth goal of the season in the win.

However, the squad faced a tough setback last Tuesday, falling 3-1 to Clear Lake, with Tegan Dungey scoring New Hampton’s lone goal and Salas recording seven saves to keep the match competitive.

The Chickasaws recently celebrated an emotional Senior Night against Decorah, marking a pivotal point as the season nears its climax and the crucial push toward regional playoffs begins.

What’s Next for New Hampton?

With momentum on their side and balanced scoring front, the Chickasaws must regroup quickly after the Denver Tournament’s opening loss and continue honing their skills before regional contests kick off. Coach Talib’s focus on unwavering confidence and team cohesion will be key as the Chickasaws eye deeper postseason success.

California and US soccer fans tracking rising high school talent should keep an eye on New Hampton’s dynamic lineup, as the Chickasaws have proven their ability to deliver under pressure and distribute scoring across multiple players.
