Beloved Educator “Tom” Wickersham, 77, Passes Away in Greenville

BREAKING: The community of Greenville is mourning the loss of beloved educator and community figure, “Tom” Hilbert Wickersham, who passed away on February 19, 2026, at the age of 77. Wickersham, known for his dedication to teaching and philanthropy, left a lasting impact on countless lives.

Born on August 26, 1948, in Vandalia, Illinois, Tom was an accomplished athlete at Vandalia High School, excelling in wrestling, tennis, and football before graduating in 1966. Just five days after earning his Bachelor of Science in Education from Greenville University, he married his beloved wife, Patricia “Pat” Louise Young, on May 30, 1970. Together, they raised two children, David and Elizabeth, and embraced the joys of family life.

Wickersham devoted his career to teaching U.S. history and studying theology at Asbury Theological Seminary. His legacy as an educator continued even after retirement, as he brought joy to children for over 16 years as one of Santa’s helpers alongside Mrs. Claus, raising funds for local charities.

In a heartwarming tribute to family, Tom became “Baba” to his grandson, Zachary Thomas Ginn, in 2009. Inspired by Zach, Tom earned his black belt in Taekwondo at the age of 73, showcasing his commitment to self-improvement and family engagement.

Tom is survived by his wife, Pat; his children, David and Elizabeth (husband Jeremy); his grandson, Zach; and his brother, James “Jim” Wickersham (wife Donna) of Greenville, Illinois.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Pleasanton on February 27, 2026, drawing friends, family, and community members to honor his remarkable life.
