UPDATE: Travelers in Michigan should prepare for the seasonal closure of several roadside parks starting Monday, Oct. 20. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has confirmed that three parks will shut down as part of critical bathroom upgrades, impacting scenic drives across the state.

Effective Monday, White Cloud Roadside Park on M-37 in Newaygo County, Chase Roadside Park on US-10 in Lake County, and Baldwin Roadside Park, also on US-10 in Lake County, will close their gates for the winter season. This announcement comes as the weather shifts, making it crucial for travelers to plan accordingly.

Don’t despair just yet, as some parks will remain open longer into the fall. The Brown Roadside Park on M-25 in Huron County will serve visitors until Friday, Nov. 28. If your travels take you to Newaygo County, stop by the White River Roadside Park on M-20 or High Rollway Park on M-82, both of which will welcome guests until Saturday, Nov. 29. Additionally, the Manistee River Roadside Park near Manton on US-131 in Wexford County will remain open until Monday, Dec. 1.

For those hoping to enjoy the fall colors and crisp air, MDOT has confirmed that several roadside parks will still be accessible throughout the winter. Parks like White Rock Roadside Park on M-25 in Sanilac County, Cass River Roadside Park on M-46 in Tuscola County, and Artesian Flow Roadside Park on M-140 near Watervliet will remain open year-round, providing a refuge for weary travelers.

This seasonal closure raises concerns for many who rely on these scenic stops during their travels. As Michigan prepares for winter, MDOT emphasizes the importance of planning ahead to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey.
