UPDATE: Chuck Lorre, the mastermind behind The Big Bang Theory franchise, has just confirmed that the new spin-off, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, has completed principal photography. Lorre describes the project as a “big swing” into uncharted territory for the beloved series, which has captivated audiences for years.
In a recent interview with People, Lorre expressed excitement about the upcoming show, stating, “We just finished principal photography, and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s a big swing.” He acknowledged the risks associated with venturing into new creative territory, adding, “I think it will be revered or reviled. I’m not sure which.”
Set to be released on HBO Max later this year, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe marks the third official spin-off following Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. This new series follows the character Stuart Bloom, played by Kevin Sussman, alongside Lauren Lapkus as Denise, Brian Posehn as Bert Kibbler, and John Ross Bowie as Barry Kripke.
The premise revolves around Stuart, a comic book store owner, who must restore reality after accidentally breaking a device built by fan-favorites Sheldon and Leonard. Stuart embarks on a thrilling journey that involves alternate versions of beloved characters, promising a unique blend of science fiction, action, and comedy.
Lorre revealed his motivation behind the series: “I just wanted to do something that challenged me, that I was uncomfortable and in unfamiliar territory, and the special effects stuff, the computer graphics, all those things.”
As anticipation builds for the show, fans are left wondering how this new direction will resonate. Will it capture the charm of the original series, or will it fall flat?
The show’s completion of principal photography signals a critical milestone, with significant production efforts taking place earlier this year in April 2023. With Lorre at the helm, known for hits like Two and a Half Men, the stakes are high as audiences await what’s next.
