Harper Hardin, a student at Mission Middle School, expressed her disbelief and excitement upon learning that her design was chosen from numerous submissions.
“I was kind of just, like, in shock, like, total shock that I had won,” Hardin stated, reflecting on the moment she received the news. Her innovative wrap design, which incorporates striking white camouflage with vibrant purple accents, draws inspiration from Bellevue’s strong military presence and the school colors. “I thought white camo always looks sleek,” she explained, highlighting the dual motivation behind her creative choices.
The police cruiser, operated by School Resource Officer Isaias Rosario, is set to serve all three middle schools in the Bellevue district. Officer Rosario initiated the contest as a unique way to foster closer ties with students. “What better way to connect with someone than, hey, like, you can potentially have your car out there?” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of community engagement.
Hardin submitted her design back in November 2023 and eagerly sought updates from Rosario about the selection process. “I kept asking Officer Rosario, hey, when are you guys gonna pick the cruiser? Like, every time I saw him in the office,” she recalled, showcasing her dedication and anticipation.
Seeing the final design come to life has filled Rosario with pride. “It brings joy to my eyes, I guess,” he said, reflecting on how the collaboration has brought the community closer together.
