URGENT UPDATE: A man was struck by a train near Santa Barbara on Friday night and is currently hospitalized with CPR in progress. The incident occurred at approximately 5:49 p.m. on Cabrillo Boulevard, near the Santa Barbara Cemetery, prompting immediate action from local emergency services.
According to Santa Barbara City Fire Department officials, both the City Fire and Montecito Fire Department were dispatched to the scene of this tragic train-versus-pedestrian collision. Fire crews quickly took over administering CPR after initial efforts by police officers, as confirmed by City Fire Battalion Chief Jon Turner.
The victim, a male of unknown age, was transported by American Medical Response ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Details regarding his identity and current medical condition remain unavailable as authorities continue to investigate. Turner added that the victim was struck by a northbound Amtrak passenger train.
This incident marks the third train-related injury in southern Santa Barbara County this month. Earlier on February 1, a man tragically lost his life after being hit by a northbound Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train in Santa Barbara near Milpas Street. Additionally, on Tuesday, another man sustained major injuries after being struck by a freight train in Summerland.
