Sam Neill has expressed a personal connection to the upcoming film, Jurassic World Rebirth, particularly due to his long-standing relationship with Scarlett Johansson. Neill, who starred with Johansson in the 1998 film The Horse Whisperer, shared his sentiments in a recent interview, describing the new installment of the franchise as “a family affair.”
Neill played Robert MacLean in The Horse Whisperer, where he portrayed the father of Johansson’s character, Grace. At the time of filming, Johansson was only 12 years old, depicting a young girl recovering from a tragic horse accident. Reflecting on their shared history, Neill told Entertainment Weekly, “I feel like it’s a family affair here,” emphasizing the significance of Johansson’s role in Jurassic World Rebirth.
In this new film, Johansson takes on the character of Zora Bennett, a skilled operations specialist employed by a pharmaceutical company. Her mission involves infiltrating a remote dinosaur habitat to extract DNA from some of the largest surviving prehistoric creatures. For Neill, witnessing Johansson’s evolution within the franchise is akin to seeing a familiar face stepping into new responsibilities. “I’m very fond of Scarlett,” he remarked, highlighting their enduring bond.
Neill Returns to Dinosaur Territory
In addition to his reflections on Johansson, Neill also finds himself back in the world of dinosaurs. He is set to reunite with fellow actors Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum for a new commercial for Xfinity, which is scheduled to air during the upcoming Super Bowl. Directed by Taika Waititi, the advertisement creatively reimagines the iconic Jurassic Park setting, showcasing a world where technology functions seamlessly. In this version, stable Wi-Fi prevents the catastrophic events typically associated with the park, ensuring that no one meets a grim fate.
The collaboration between Xfinity and NBCUniversal aims to recreate the essence of the original 1993 film, complete with authentic costumes, sets, and visuals. Neill noted that none of the clothing he wore in the commercial was original, as he had previously auctioned off his old Jurassic memorabilia for charity. “Nothing I was wearing [in the ad] was original,” he explained, underscoring the care taken to maintain the film’s nostalgic elements.
As anticipation builds for Jurassic World Rebirth, Neill’s reflections on his past with Johansson and his return to familiar territory highlight the deep connections formed in the world of cinema. The film is not merely another sequel for Neill; it represents the continuation of a legacy intertwined with personal relationships and shared experiences.
