Neil Gaiman Responds to Sexual Assault Allegations, Denies Claims

Renowned author Neil Gaiman has publicly addressed allegations of sexual assault made against him, vehemently denying the claims and condemning the media narrative surrounding them. In a detailed statement shared via his Instagram account, Gaiman characterized the accusations as a “smear campaign” aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

In his statement, Gaiman asserted that the allegations are false and emphasized that evidence, including private communications, contradicts the claims made against him. He expressed concern over the manner in which the allegations have been disseminated, stating, “These allegations, especially the really salacious ones, have been spread and amplified by people who seemed a lot more interested in outrage and getting clicks on headlines rather than whether things had actually happened or not. (They didn’t.)”

Gaiman criticized media organizations for their reporting, expressing disappointment that many did not conduct thorough investigations that would account for the “mountains of evidence” available. He described the media coverage as largely an “echo chamber,” where substantial evidence was overlooked or ignored.

Despite the controversy, Gaiman conveyed his belief that his perspective on the events will ultimately prevail. He noted that this conviction has helped him navigate the challenging situation and expressed gratitude to his supporters during this tumultuous period.

The allegations against Gaiman involve nine women who have accused him of sexual misconduct and coercive behavior. Initial details emerged from a July 2024 investigative podcast by Tortoise Media, with further exploration in a January 2025 report by New York Magazine. Among the accusers is Scarlett Pavlovich, who previously served as a nanny for Gaiman and his ex-wife, musician Amanda Palmer.

As the situation continues to unfold, Gaiman’s response marks his first public comments on the allegations in several months. His statement seeks to clarify his position and counter the narrative that has gained traction in both media and public discourse.
