URGENT UPDATE: A 39-year-old man from Old Bridge, New Jersey, has been arrested for allegedly producing child sexual abuse materials while posing as a teenager on Snapchat. Daniel Berwick was taken into custody on Wednesday following a thorough investigation initiated by a cyber tip from the New Jersey State Police.
Authorities announced that Berwick faces serious charges, including first-degree production of child sexual abuse material, second-degree manufacturing and possession of child sexual abuse material, and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. He is also charged with using deceptive audio or video files to facilitate a crime and distributing obscene material to a child. This alarming case highlights the ongoing threats posed by online predators in our communities.
The investigation revealed that Berwick used someone else’s photos and videos to impersonate a 17-year-old boy on Snapchat. Multiple law enforcement agencies participated in the operation, including the Old Bridge Police Department, the FBI Newark Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, and the Dallas Police Department.
Berwick is currently held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility as he awaits a detention hearing. The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has urged anyone with additional information or tips to contact Detective Ken McGarry at 732-745-3140.
