Holiday DUI Arrests Surge in Nez Perce County Over Weekend

BREAKING: A surge in DUI arrests has hit Nez Perce County over the holiday weekend, with authorities booking and charging eight individuals with driving under the influence from December 24 to December 28. In nearby Clarkston, police arrested four more for similar offenses, marking a significant increase compared to previous years.

Clarkston Police Chief Josh Daniel reported a concerning trend. “It was a pretty busy holiday weekend for DUI arrests,” Daniel stated, noting that this year’s figures were notably higher. The Clarkston police force is set to be fully staffed to ensure safety during the upcoming New Year’s holiday.

While Lewiston Police did not provide immediate comments, they confirmed two DUI arrests during the same period. In total, the Idaho State Police recorded two additional DUIs, and deputies from Nez Perce County brought in four. Alarmingly, of the 17 arrests made in the county, over half were due to drunken driving.

In the breakdown of Nez Perce County DUI arrests, two occurred on Christmas Eve, with a quiet Christmas Day, followed by six arrests over the following weekend. The remaining 10 arrests included charges for outstanding warrants, a restraining order violation, unlawful entry, and resisting arrest.

Clarkston police reported a total of 14 arrests throughout the holiday, with four DUI citations. Notably, one of the arrestees was a 17-year-old driver. Most DUI incidents were concentrated on the city’s north end, particularly near the Interstate Blue Bridge and popular retail spots like Costco and Walmart.

Daniel emphasized the importance of responsible drinking, urging New Year’s revelers to avoid poor decisions that could ruin their celebrations. “I hope people drink responsibly and take up offers of free rides and use designated drivers,” he advised.

As the New Year approaches, authorities are on high alert for DUI incidents, urging the community to prioritize safety. With these alarming statistics, it is critical for everyone to stay vigilant and make responsible choices to keep the roads safe during this festive season.
