Major Crash Closes I-81 Southbound in Cumberland County

UPDATE: The southbound lanes of I-81 in Cumberland County are currently closed following a severe traffic collision that occurred just before 8:35 p.m. on Friday evening. First responders have shut down the interstate at Exit 37, the intersection with Route 233, as they work to manage the scene.

Traffic conditions throughout Central Pennsylvania are exacerbated by treacherous weather. The National Weather Service has warned of ice accumulation in the region, estimating totals between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. Although much of the precipitation has already fallen, additional sleet and freezing rain are expected later tonight.
