Google Announces Game-Changing Gmail Address Update for Users

URGENT UPDATE: Google has just announced a groundbreaking update allowing users to finally change their @gmail.com email addresses. This feature is being rolled out gradually, aiming for full availability by the start of December 2023.

For years, users have expressed frustration over the inability to change their Gmail addresses. Recent updates to Google’s help center confirm that users will soon have the option to keep their beloved @gmail.com domain while switching to a new address. This change was first reported by members of the “Google Pixel Hub” Telegram group, who discovered the new information on the Hindi-language version of the help page.

According to the updated support documents, “If your Google Account email address ends in @gmail.com, you may be able to change it to another address that ends in @gmail.com.” This means that users who have outgrown their original Gmail address or are simply seeking a fresh start can now do so without losing any data tied to their account.

This feature comes as a relief to many, as users will retain access to both their old and new email addresses. Emails sent to either address will still arrive in their inbox, allowing for a seamless transition in communication. Additionally, all associated data, including photos and messages, will remain intact.

However, there are some important limitations to consider. Once users change their email address, they will not be able to create another new Gmail address for the same account for the next 12 months.

To check eligibility for this new feature, users in regions with updated help pages can visit myaccount.google.com/google-account-email. After clicking on “Personal information” in the upper-left corner, they should navigate to “Email” and then “Google Account email address.” If the option is available, a button labeled “Change Google Account email” will appear, prompting them to enter their desired new username.

The English version of Google’s help page has not yet been updated with this information, but the rollout across other languages, including Spanish, French, and Japanese, suggests a global availability is on the horizon.

As Google continues to update its services, users are encouraged to stay informed about this significant change. With the potential to reshape how millions communicate online, this new feature is set to make a lasting impact.

Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
