Kevin App Achieves 200 Career Wins as Williams Coach

BREAKING: Williams College men’s basketball coach Kevin App has just achieved a significant milestone, earning his 200th career win during a thrilling game against Carleton College on December 20 in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Ephs triumphed with a close score of 73-71, solidifying App’s position as only the second coach in the school’s history to reach this landmark.

In his characteristic humble style, App reflected on the achievement, stating, “My thoughts are I’m getting older,” and shared the joy of celebrating this victory with his team. This win marks his 200-83 coaching record over 11 seasons, positioning him among the elite in Division III basketball.

The milestone victory was celebrated by his players, with first-year guard Khalil Carlson expressing excitement about the moment, saying, “We didn’t know it until we got back to the locker room… it was really special to celebrate.” The team’s celebration included a water shower and a festive dinner with families that evening, highlighting the emotional significance of the occasion.

App’s 100th win came on November 15, 2019, against Worcester State, further illustrating his consistent success with the Ephs. Only Harry Sheehy, who coached from 1984 to 2000, has more wins in Williams’ history, boasting a record of 324-104.

Historically, App has now surpassed notable coaches like Dave Paulsen and Mike Maker, who previously held significant records in the program. Currently, he ranks fourth in longevity within the NESCAC conference, which includes teams from New England.

Reflecting on his approach, App emphasized the importance of focusing on daily improvements and the experiences shared with his players, stating, “I was just enjoying the trip down to Florida… happy to get back to competing.”

As the Ephs prepare to return to Williamstown after the holiday break, they are set to face Worcester State again on January 3 at Chandler Gym. Fans and supporters are eagerly anticipating the next chapter in App’s coaching journey, which continues to inspire both players and the community.
