URGENT UPDATE: A 35-year-old Southgate father, Nick Farley, tragically died just moments after dropping off his children at Fordline Elementary School on Monday morning. The sudden loss has left the family and community in shock as they navigate this devastating time during the holiday season.
Witnesses reported that after Farley dropped off his 11-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter, he began to feel unwell while getting back into his car. He exited the vehicle and collapsed in the street directly across from the school playground. “It literally was so fast,” said neighbor Shannon Pierzynowski. “He knew there was something wrong, and he asked for help.”
Emergency services were called, and Farley was rushed to Wyandotte Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Close friend Alex Burgos revealed that Farley had been feeling unwell recently, and the family is currently awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
Burgos shared heartfelt memories of Farley, describing him as a devoted father who cherished moments with his children. “He would hold his daughter so tight… that just shows what kind of dad he was,” Burgos stated. The connection between their children, who have been best friends since Kindergarten, added to the deep sense of loss felt by the community.
In response to this tragic event, the tight-knit Southgate community has come together to support Farley’s family during this difficult time. Friends have organized a meal train and are collecting gift cards to assist the family. A GoFundMe campaign launched to help cover expenses has already raised over $2,000 within 24 hours.
Southgate Community Schools expressed their sorrow in an official statement, saying, “We are heartbroken by the passing of Mr. Farley. This loss radiates throughout the school community in such a deep way.” The school emphasized the importance of community support during this challenging time.
“My heart hurts for the kids to grow up without a dad. I just know they have a hard road ahead of them,” Burgos added, highlighting the profound human impact of this tragedy.
As the community continues to rally together, they are reminded of the importance of support and compassion during the holiday season. More updates are expected as the family navigates this heartbreaking loss.
