Lota Onwuameze Shines as IMSA Dominates St. Edward 51-32

UPDATE: Lota Onwuameze delivered a stunning performance as the Illinois Math & Science Academy (IMSA) overwhelmed St. Edward with a commanding 51-32 victory on December 15, 2025. The junior forward, standing tall at 6-foot-4, notched a game-high 17 points along with 11 rebounds, reinforcing his reputation as a key player for the Titans.

Onwuameze, who has quickly become a force in the middle for IMSA, emphasized the importance of teamwork in his post-game remarks. “In my mind, I think I bring our team together in a way. I move the ball and everybody has their time,” he stated. His leadership was pivotal in securing the Titans’ victory, as they surged to a 21-1 lead after just one quarter.

The Titans, now boasting a record of 6-4, showcased their depth with strong contributions from teammates. Senior forward Omar Njikam added 12 points and 14 rebounds, while guard Neil Sitapara contributed 12 points, all from three-pointers. Coach Brad Snead praised Onwuameze’s skills, stating, “Lota is solid. He uses his body very well. He’s very skilled at his post work.”

The match took place at St. Edward in Elgin, Illinois, and the atmosphere was electric as IMSA’s players demonstrated their chemistry and agility on the court. Onwuameze’s ability to facilitate play and engage his teammates was evident, as he consistently found open players throughout the game.

IMSA’s success this season is a testament to their hard work and dedication. Onwuameze, who averaged a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds last season, has increased his performance to 18 points and 10 rebounds this winter. The Titans’ journey is remarkable, especially considering the challenges of summer training when players scatter across the state.

Reflecting on his basketball journey, Onwuameze shared the influence of his childhood friend who introduced him to the game. “I had a friend I’d known from preschool who actually got me started playing basketball,” he explained. His commitment has led him to excel at IMSA, where he hopes to build on the legacy initiated by his brother, Muna, the Titans’ career scoring leader.

As the Titans look ahead, they aim to harness their potential and continue their winning streak. With key players like Njikam and Sitapara stepping up alongside Onwuameze, IMSA is poised to make a significant impact this season. Fans and followers are eagerly anticipating what’s next for this talented team.
