Arizona Sportsmen’s Fund Urges Donations for Kids’ Summer Camp

URGENT UPDATE: The Arizona Daily Star Sportsmen’s Fund is actively seeking donations to ensure that children from low-income families can attend summer camp. With $253,673.97 raised so far, the fund aims to send even more kids to camp this year, including new scholarships for students in Flowing Wells to attend the overnight Sky School camp on Mt. Lemmon.

This initiative is critical as it directly impacts the lives of 423 children in Southern Arizona, providing them with unforgettable experiences at camps like YMCA, Scouting America, and Camp Tatiyee. Since its inception in 1947, the Sportsmen’s Fund has facilitated camp experiences for over 44,814 children, making it one of Arizona’s oldest and most efficient charities.

WHY THIS MATTERS NOW: Donations to the Sportsmen’s Fund are eligible for the Arizona tax credit, allowing joint filers to contribute up to $987 and other Arizona filers up to $495 for the 2025 tax year. This means your generosity not only benefits local youth but also provides substantial tax relief.

The fund, with an impressive 97 cents of every dollar going directly to camp scholarships, is urging the community to get involved. Recent donations include significant contributions from community members like Jack L. Alexander, who donated $10,000, and others who collectively contributed $256,252 to support these vital programs.

WHAT TO DO NEXT: Interested donors can contribute online at azsendakidtocamp.org or send checks to “Send a Kid to Camp, P.O. Box 16141, Tucson, AZ 85732-6141.” For those aged 70½ or older, donating directly from an IRA can provide additional tax benefits. Consult your tax adviser for more information.

The Sportsmen’s Fund continues to expand its partnerships, aiming for a broader reach in supporting children from Title 1 schools for future camps. Each donation not only sends a child to camp but also fosters community spirit and support for those in need.
