SacRT Launches 2025 Holiday Bus with Free Rides and Support for Foster Youth

Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) has introduced its 2025 Holiday Bus, aiming to spread festive cheer while supporting foster youth in the Sacramento area. The bus was unveiled on December 4, 2023, at the Stanford Sierra Youth & Families facility, a nonprofit dedicated to assisting over 2,800 foster children. The initiative offers free rides until January 2, 2025, inviting riders to contribute donations onboard or online to bolster programs serving these vulnerable youth.

This year’s partnership with Stanford Sierra Youth & Families focuses on providing essential mental health services to foster youth, many of whom are teenagers. SacRT officials emphasize that the Holiday Bus serves not only as a means of transportation but also as a vital tool to promote awareness about the needs of foster children. Community members are encouraged to consider adopting a foster youth, volunteering as mentors, or supporting the cause in various ways.

Community Engagement and Upcoming Events

In addition to offering free rides, the Holiday Bus will participate in a special event known as “Stuff the Bus.” Scheduled for December 6, 2023, from 08:00 to 12:00 at the Sunrise Light Rail station in Rancho Cordova, this initiative invites the community to donate toys and gift cards for foster youth. The collected items will directly benefit children in need during the holiday season.

The Holiday Bus will also be featured in the annual Santa Parade, taking place on December 13, 2023, at 10:00 in Capitol Park. This parade offers another opportunity for community members to engage and support foster youth while celebrating the festive season.
