Judy Parsons, Beloved Community Leader, Passes Away at 92

BREAKING: Judith Lynn Parsons, a cherished community leader and beloved matriarch, has passed away peacefully at her home in Soquel, California at the age of 92. This tragic news follows a joyful visit with her family, including her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter.

Born in 1932 to Dorothy Graebe-Zent and Claude Zent in Stockton, Judy faced early challenges after losing her mother to tuberculosis at just seven years old. Raised by her grandparents, Hermann and Hermina Graebe, she blossomed into a vibrant and independent woman passionate about politics and baseball.

Judy graduated from Stockton College High School and later from San Jose State University, where she was a proud member of the Chi Omega sorority. In 1954, she married her high school sweetheart, Paul Parsons, whom she met at Cowell’s Beach. Together, they created a loving home in Rio Del Mar before moving to Soquel, where they raised three children and became active community members.

Throughout her life, Judy dedicated herself to various causes, working with the Girl Scouts and serving in Parks and Recreation. She also owned the Parsons Insurance Agency in Capitola, where she supported friends and clients alike. Her commitment to community service was evident through her involvement in initiatives like the Sportscar Club and the Land Trust, which helped establish Anna Jean Cummins Park, affectionately known as Blue Ball Park.

Judy was an ardent fan of the Oakland A’s, rarely missing a game alongside Paul, with whom she shared a deep connection forged over decades. Together, they cultivated a rich family life, cherishing summers at their cabin at Woods Lake and embarking on adventures across Central and South America, the Caribbean, and even a safari in Africa during their late 80s.

Survived by her three children—Randall Parsons (Alison), Stacey Ely (Skip), and Pepe Parsons (Amy D)—Judy took immense pride in her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. This legacy of love and community spirit is underscored by a heartfelt request for donations to a favorite community charity in her honor.

Judy’s passing comes just months after losing her devoted husband, Paul Parsons, who held her hand as he passed in May after more than 70 years of marriage. Their enduring love story remains a testament to their deep bond and commitment to family.

As family and friends prepare to celebrate Judy’s remarkable life during the upcoming holidays, tributes are pouring in for a woman who was not only a mother and grandmother but also a pillar of the Soquel community. Her legacy of positivity and service is sure to leave a lasting impact.

In this time of grief, special thanks are owed to Judy’s close friends, including Pat Poulos and sorority sister Jean Tarr, as well as her exceptional care team and the VNA nurses who provided support during her final days.

This news is a reminder of the profound influence one individual can have on a community, and Judy Parsons will be remembered for her vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication to making Soquel a better place for all.
