UWS Soccer Dominates Conference Titles; Cross Country Claims Crown

UPDATE: Wisconsin-Superior’s men’s soccer team has just clinched another championship title, finishing the regular season unbeaten by demolishing Martin Luther 8-0 at Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium on Saturday. The Yellowjackets scored four goals in the first 18 minutes, with standout performances from Bryce Boldt and others, solidifying their dominance in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).

This victory marks UWS’s eighth consecutive league title, already secured after a 4-0 win against Bethany Lutheran on Friday. The Yellowjackets wasted no time, taking an early lead just two minutes into the match. The team now boasts a record of 14-6, 12-0 UMAC and will face fourth-place Crown in a tournament semifinal on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Superior.

In a contrasting turn of events, the women’s soccer team faced a tough defeat, ending their four-year reign as UMAC champions. They fell 2-1 to Bethany Lutheran, despite dominating shot attempts (20-9). The Yellowjackets struggled to find the net until the final moments, with Niamh Larson scoring in the 89th minute. UWS (9-7-4, 8-1-3 UMAC) will now head to Mankato for the conference tournament semifinals against Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

In cross country news, UWS men claimed their fifth consecutive UMAC title with an impressive sweep at the league meet in Winthrop, Minnesota. They nearly achieved a perfect score, finishing first through fourth places. Dylan Uitto led the pack with a personal best of 26:18.1 over the 8-kilometer course. The women’s team finished fourth overall, with Lilley Smith leading as the top finisher.

In hockey, the men’s team kicked off the season with a convincing 7-0 victory over Marian, showcasing their strength as they aim for a successful campaign. The team maintained its No. 13 ranking in the national USCHO.com poll, with Justin Dauphinais scoring the first goal of the season while goaltender Jan Skorpik recorded a 17-save shutout.

Meanwhile, the women’s hockey team is still searching for their first goal of the season after back-to-back shutout losses to Lake Forest. They will look to bounce back on Friday against Hamline.
