Martha’s Kitchen Expands to New Facility Amid Food Crisis

URGENT UPDATE: Martha’s Kitchen, a vital San Jose non-profit, has officially relocated to a larger facility on Story Road to combat rising food insecurity in the community. This move comes as the organization prepares to address an overwhelming demand for meal services, having distributed over 2.4 million meals across five California counties in 2024 alone.
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier today, Executive Director Bill Lee shared the bittersweet news that the expansion was necessary due to the alarming increase in food insecurity locally. The newly established Food Hub at 749 Story Road is set to significantly enhance meal production, with the potential to serve up to 7 million meals per year.
The ceremony drew significant attention, with San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, Councilmembers Bien Doan and David Cohen, and County Supervisor Betty Duong in attendance, showcasing robust municipal support for this crucial initiative. Their presence underscores the importance of Martha’s Kitchen in the ongoing fight against hunger in the area.
Martha’s Kitchen is actively launching a funding drive to fully operationalize the new Food Hub, aiming to raise $7.5 million to cover the cost of the facility and an additional $3 million to $5 million for the state-of-the-art commercial kitchen build-out.
In a statement reflecting the community’s commitment, Drew Starbird, a professor from Santa Clara University, emphasized that the strong turnout and support at the opening highlighted the essential role of Martha’s Kitchen in fostering a supportive community environment.
As food insecurity continues to rise, Martha’s Kitchen stands ready to expand its reach and impact, ensuring that no one in San Jose goes hungry. Stay tuned for further updates on their funding efforts and community initiatives.
