URGENT UPDATE: The San Jose Sharks remain winless this season after a devastating 6-3 loss to the Utah Mammoth on October 18, 2025, at the Delta Center. A critical turnover by goalie Yaroslav Askarov led to a go-ahead goal from Liam O’Brien, shifting momentum back to the Mammoth just when the Sharks appeared to rally.

In a dramatic second-period comeback, the Sharks erased a 2-0 deficit with goals from Tyler Toffoli and Jeff Skinner. However, Askarov’s misplay behind the net allowed O’Brien to score his first goal since April 17, 2024, sealing the Sharks’ fate. Askarov finished the night with 28 saves, but his costly mistake proved too significant to overcome.

The Sharks struggled in the first period, being outplayed before their comeback attempt. The Mammoth’s Nick Schmaltz opened the scoring on a 5-on-3 power play, and soon after, he added another after a Sharks turnover, putting San Jose in a challenging position early.

As the third period unfolded, Schmaltz completed his hat trick, and additional goals from Michael Carcone and Clayton Keller pushed the Mammoth further ahead. Although Macklin Celebrini scored his first goal of the season late in the game, the Sharks could not find the momentum they needed to turn the tide.

With this loss, the Sharks sit at 0-3-1, making them the only winless team in the NHL this season. The pressure mounts as they prepare to host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday at the SAP Center, where Alex Nedeljkovic is expected to start in goal.

This latest defeat leaves fans and players alike questioning what it will take for the Sharks to secure a win. With a challenging start to the season, all eyes will be on the Sharks’ response in their upcoming game against the Penguins.

Stay tuned for updates as the Sharks seek to break their losing streak and finally earn their first victory of the season.
