Zelenskyy Asserts Ukraine’s Resolve Ahead of Trump Meeting

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy affirmed on December 3, 2023, that Ukraine is prepared to take all necessary measures to conclude its ongoing conflict with Russia. His comments came just before a meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida, where he plans to present a detailed 20-point peace proposal aimed at resolving the war.

In a series of posts on X, Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of global support, stating, “If the whole world – Europe and America – is on our side, together we will stop Putin.” He cautioned that any support for Russia from the U.S. or Europe would prolong the conflict, stating, “There are no other options here. And this is a risk for all countries in the world.” Zelenskyy’s remarks reflect the urgency of the situation, particularly following a significant overnight assault by Russian forces on Kyiv.

The recent attack involved nearly 500 drones and over 40 missiles, including the advanced Kinzhal missiles. Local authorities reported one fatality and 27 injuries, with damage to residential buildings and critical infrastructure. Zelenskyy characterized this as a clear indication of Russian President Vladimir Putin‘s intentions, stating, “This is the true attitude of Putin and his inner circle. They do not want to end the war.”

Zelenskyy criticized the lack of genuine responses from Russia regarding peace proposals, asserting that while Russian representatives engage in discussions, their military actions tell a different story. “This sick activity can only be responded to with truly strong steps,” he added, highlighting the need for robust support from the U.S. and Europe.

In his messages, Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine did not initiate the conflict, emphasizing that “Russia started it.” He noted Ukraine’s willingness to agree to a ceasefire and various compromises, all documented in the proposed peace plan. The priority for Ukraine remains ending the war through strong negotiations backed by international support.

Prior to meeting Zelenskyy, Trump remarked that he would have the final say on any peace agreement. “He doesn’t have anything until I approve it,” Trump stated, indicating his intent to take a decisive role in peace negotiations.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed responsibility for the recent attacks, stating they targeted “energy infrastructure facilities used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.” They justified the strikes as a response to Ukrainian assaults on civilian targets in Russia.

The escalating violence underscores the complexities of the ongoing war, with both sides entrenched in their positions. As Zelenskyy prepares for talks with Trump, the situation in Ukraine remains fluid, with significant implications for regional stability and international relations.
