A friendly Great Dane mix named Blayne is still waiting for a loving home after spending six months at the Sean Casey Animal Rescue in Brooklyn, New York. Despite his amiable nature, potential adopters have been hesitant due to his large size. Blayne, believed to be around 1 year old, previously resided in a shelter in Georgia before being transferred to his current location.
Cory, an employee at the Sean Casey Animal Rescue, described Blayne as “like an oversized puppy.” He emphasized that Blayne is incredibly friendly and simply wants someone who will love him and engage in activities like cuddling and playing fetch. “It was quite a shock seeing such a big dog here, but he’s just as great and lovable as any other,” Cory stated. Blayne’s imposing size—similar to that of a small pony—has deterred many, despite his endearing personality.
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), Great Danes can reach heights of up to 32 inches at the shoulder and weigh as much as 175 pounds. Blayne, despite being a young dog, already exhibits the stature typical of his breed. The staff at Sean Casey Animal Rescue, a no-kill organization located in Windsor Terrace, are committed to finding him a suitable family.
The rescue center has utilized social media to raise awareness about Blayne. A TikTok post featuring the “huge cuddlebug” shows him looking joyful and playful, capturing the hearts of viewers. The post highlights that Blayne loves to curl up and cuddle, resembling “a tiny puppy.” It also addresses the need for an owner who can manage a dog of his size and strength.
While the TikTok post has sparked some interest, Blayne’s quest for a forever home continues. Cory noted, “People love seeing Blayne, and everyone comes by to meet him all the time. After all, it’s not often you get to meet a Great Dane.” He expressed hope that Blayne would soon find his ideal family, emphasizing the importance of providing proper care and exercise for such a large breed.
Adoption experts suggest that while experience with Great Danes could be beneficial, it should not discourage potential adopters from considering Blayne. The rescue organization is eager to connect him with the right owners who can offer the life he deserves.
As the holiday season approaches, many online users have expressed their concern about Blayne remaining in a shelter. A wave of support has emerged on social media, with over 220 comments on the TikTok post. One user remarked, “Big dogs who think they’re small dogs are the best,” while another urged, “Blayne needs his special person to hurry up and go get him now, please!”
The community’s interest in Blayne underscores the importance of outreach efforts in finding homes for animals in need. As Blayne continues to wait, the staff at Sean Casey Animal Rescue remain hopeful that he will soon find a loving family that recognizes his potential as a cherished companion.
