The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) deployed forces near the Israel-Egypt border for the second time in 24 hours after multiple sightings of pickup trucks along the Egyptian side. The situation escalated as the IDF monitored the area, affirming that these gatherings do not pose a security threat, despite heightened vigilance.
On March 15, 2024, the Eshkol Regional Council issued a statement confirming that recent days have seen several assemblies of trucks close to the border. According to Ynet, these vehicles were observed approximately 100 meters from the border, prompting IDF observers to keep a close watch. The Egyptian army has reportedly been engaged at the scene, working to remove the residents present in the trucks.
Earlier reports from KAN News indicated that the IDF was prepared to use “measured fire” against these trucks. The military presence in the area included tanks, an attack helicopter, and drones, highlighting the seriousness with which the IDF is treating the situation.
Despite the mobilization of military resources, the Eshkol Regional Council emphasized that the border remains “peaceful.” The council further noted that it has maintained ongoing communication with military authorities. In its statement, the council requested additional military and government efforts to relocate the gatherings away from the border and enhance security measures in the vicinity.
This recent incident marks the second occurrence of such sightings in a single day, underscoring the ongoing complexities along the Israel-Egypt border. The IDF reassured the public that the gatherings do not constitute a direct threat to security, but the presence of the trucks has prompted a proactive stance from both Israeli and Egyptian forces.
The situation continues to develop, with both the IDF and the Egyptian army actively managing their respective responses to ensure stability in the region.
