An officer from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) fatally shot Minneapolis resident Renee Nicole Good while she was in her car on Wednesday. During a recent court appearance, Jonathan Ross testified about a violent arrest he was involved in last June in Bloomington, Minnesota. In that incident, Ross attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Roberto Carlos Muñoz, a Guatemalan citizen with a criminal history that includes convictions for sex crimes. The traffic stop escalated dramatically when Muñoz attempted to flee, resulting in Ross being dragged by the vehicle as he broke the rear driver’s side window.
Ross described the chaotic scene, stating he deployed his Taser into Muñoz’s face “ten times” and witnessed the effects but was unable to stop the driver. “I was fearing for my life,” Ross testified. “I knew I was going to get drug.” He reported being dragged approximately 100 yards before being thrown free, suffering injuries that required a total of 33 stitches to his legs and hands. Muñoz was later convicted of assaulting a federal officer and causing bodily harm.
A senior official from the Department of Homeland Security confirmed to CNN that Ross is the same officer involved in the recent shooting of Good. This connection raises significant concerns about the oversight and accountability of ICE officers in the field.
